Devolution conference scaled down to 1000 fully vaccinated delegates

Council of Governors (CoG) has scaled down the number of delegates scheduled to attend the 7th devolution conference to 1000 who per the council will have to be fully vaccinated.
According to the council, this is to ensure that the protocols set by the Ministry of Health are followed.
6000 delegates were scheduled to attend the conference which will take place at Makueni Boys High School between August 23 and 26 will proceed as planned.
“To actualize this, the COG in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Makueni County has rolled out a massive vaccination drive. Currently, there is an ongoing vaccination drive at COG offices to ensure that all registered delegates are fully vaccinated,” CoG said.
The governors revealed that all the conference delegates have been fully vaccinated.
The conference whose theme is ‘Multi-Level Governance for Climate Action’ got a go ahead a day after leaders from the county called for its postponement due to an upsurge of Covid-19 cases in the County.
Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa said the rest of the delegates are expected to participate virtually.
Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo, expressed fears that the four-day conference could aggravate the worrying infection rates as it was likely to attract a huge crowd of over 3,000 delegates and expose many residents to the risk of covid-19 infection.
The county bosses have also resolved that going forward the forum will be held after every two years to allow ample time for implementation of resolutions and feedback.
Registration will be carried out online, which will be closed on August 17 to ensure that the protocols set by Health Ministry are followed.
