Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has said every Kenyan will be connected to electricity by the year 2020.
Keter said under the Last Mile Connectivity programme, every Kenyan is poised to be connected to the national Crid irrespective of one status in the society. He said the Jubilee administration is working round the clock to ensure the target is achieved before 2020.
Speaking at Cheborgei village in Bureti Constituency during a farmers’ field day sponsored by Kenya Plant Inspectorate Services (Kephis) and County government of Kericho, the CS revealed that currently 70% of Kenyans have been connected with electricity.
“We as the government are partnering with development partners and financial institutions to ensure every Kenyan no matter where he or she lives is connected with the electricity by the year 2020. We are serious about this and we have already laid out strategies to ensure we achieve our target,” Keter added,
Barely three weeks ago, Deputy president William Ruto who had accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta to Kericho County to drum support for Jubilee revealed that Sh1 billion has been allocated to the county for the Last Mile Connectivity Programme.
