Eugene Asike pens down heartwarming letter after completing move to Sweden

Kenyan international and former Tusker FC fast-rising defender Eugene Asike has penned down a heartwarming letter to his former club expressing gratitude to the entire Tusker FC fraternity following his move to the Swedish third side IF Karlstad Football.

Asike, who now joins the Swedish side on a one-and-a-half year contract, will be tasked with helping the team make their way up the Swedish tiers to the top flight.

According to the top defender he is up to task in helping the team achieve the target.

Asike, who is the reigning Football Kenya Federation Premier League defender of the year, skipped the Brewers to their 12 league title last year, his second title with the club having won back in 2016 as Tusker won the double.

In his farewell letter, Asike cited the memories made along the way and also the learning curve towards his growth as a footballer.

He singled out continental action experience as something that has made him a better player and believes contributed a lot to his move.

He further noted that his ascendancy to captainship also played a great role, giving him more leadership responsibilities at the club where he learnt to embrace a winning mentality.

Asike’s message to Tusker FC fraternity: “I have had a good time at Tusker FC over the last six years.

There have been ups and downs but looking back, the good memories overwhelm the bad memories.

I have had a good time at the club and developed as a player. Being given the captaincy also gave me more responsibilities and I want to say thank you to the entire Tusker family.

Looking back, 2016 was a good year because we won the double, but for me last season was the best for me.

Leading the team to the title as a captain and also being named as the defender of the tear was the highlight of my time here at Tusker.

I have learnt to have a winning mentality in everything. This is a winning team and every game we have to win and don’t settle for less.

I have gained that mentality not just on the field but also in my life outside football. I have to win in everything.

I am moving to Sweden to play for Karlstad and I have signed a one and a half year contract.

Their ambition is to move up to the top tier and I want to go there and give my best.

The work has already began for me. Being here has given me the opportunity to play and improve.

Playing in the Champions League and Confederation Cup have also made me better and I believe that is where I was spotted.

I have been on trials here and there but I believe this is the best time for me to accept a new challenge, go there and do my best.

I just want to say thank you to the Tusker family for all the six years I have been here.

They have supported me in good and bad times and always shown me love from the brand, the executive, technical bench, players and fans.

I want to say thank you and I will always be the team’s number on fan wherever I will be.

I want to wish them all the best and I believe that I will come back here one day in a different capacity, maybe as a coach, who knows? Asike Posed
