Environmentalist Kalua call for ban on export of raw timber

Environmentalist and party leader of the Green Thinking Action Party Dr. Isaack Kalua has called upon the government to immediately put a moratorium on the export of raw timber, saying it is contributing to environmental degradation and rapid deforestation.

Consequently, it is emerging that president William Ruto’s target of 15 billion trees by 2032 may not be achieved as a cartel is now working against the calls and actively involved in cutting down trees, especially the eucalyptus tree, for export.

According to Kalua, the government should recalibrate its efforts and focus them on conserving the environment and improving the country’s forest cover as it emerges, Kenya may be manipulating its forest cover numbers.

“Kenya is staring at a crisis of monumental proportions in forestry if the government will not train its guns on the country’s forest cover soon…The Green Thinking Action Party of Kenya is sounding a red flag over the rate at which Kenya’s forest cover is being degraded, as it turns out that a number of species of trees, numbering about 6 million, have been cut in the last 7 months especially for export.” Kalua noted.

The leader, who is also an environmentalist said that there is an unchecked and continued harvesting of trees, export deception of timber for medicine and perfume and an economic sabotage in export of raw timber at the expense of the country’s laws.

Kalua has been championing the president’s message of improving the country’s forest cover, says there lies a danger in a clique of greedy people keen on sabotaging the grand plan, by pushing deforestation, but at their selfish gain

Moreso, Kalua, who’s party champions for a greener future, wants various laws of the land, relating to upholding the country’s forest cover, reviewed, with the aim of keeping off unauthorised persons from Kenya’s forests

Dr. Kalua also want an urgent statement from president Ruto on those targeting indigenous trees that are being targeted for export for their core value such as for medicine and perfume

Kalua also said his party, which has been championing for a greener Kenya, wants a working relationship with the environment ministry

He also called out a clique of individuals whom he says want to grab Karura Forest.
