EACC signs MoU with National Youth Council to strengthen fight on graft
Oginde observed that corruption is a moral crisis and the youth provide the hope and opportunity to provide a collective effort to advocate for the integrity in society
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the National Youth Council have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen the fight against corruption and promotion of good governance.
Speaking after the signing of the MoU, EACC chairperson David Oginde termed the partnership as strategic and very critical step in the fight against corruption.
He stated that the youth and the society at large suffer the corrosive effects of corruption and bad governance.
“Let’s refuse tokens we may receive from the corrupt. This is because the resources are yours and they are giving you very little of it,” Oginde urged.
The EACC chairman observed that corruption is a moral crisis and the youth provide the hope and opportunity to provide a collective effort to advocate for the integrity in society.
He further, reiterated that the partnership with the youth is critical since the youth have the energy, the voice and creativity to innovative solutions to current challenges in the country as he challenged the youth to use their numbers to stand for integrity in society and take up their positions in advocating for an honest and the right.
The MoU is aimed at establishing a formal and structured ways of engagement between the Commission and the Youth in preventing and combating corruption and economic crimes, engage with the youth in promotion of ethics and integrity and to promote sharing of knowledge, experience and resources that are mutually beneficial to both parties.
Further, the MoU will provide platform for collaboration on the areas of empowerment and capacity building of the youth, information sharing, corruption prevention and review policy and legal frameworks on good governance and fight against corruption.
Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Principal Secretary said the youth will provide an invaluable contribution in the fight against corruption through the creation of awareness and advocacy against corruption by using the social media.
He affirmed the support of the Commission and the Council in implementing the MoU.
