Dozens admitted at Ruiru Level Four Hospital over Cholera symptoms
Dozens of patients are admitted at Ruiru Level Four Hospital exhibiting Cholera like symptoms sparking fears of a possible second outbreak of the deadly disease in Kiambu County in less than two months.
By today morning, a total of twenty-five patients have been placed under close watch over diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration.
They are all from the neighbouring Gatong’ora, Murera, Kiratina and Prison areas which have already reported two cholera related deaths.
“We are worried things might get out of hand if no immediate action is taken by both the national and county government of Kiambu. If the situation persists, the facilities in Kiambu county might be overstretched to the limit and unable to admit more patients.” Alice. Waceke, a relative to one of the ailing patients lamented.
In October this year Kiambu county reported 15 cases of cholera a few days after the government issued an alert of the virus in six counties.
According to Murera ward MCA Moses Ngatha so far 29 people from Theta and Murera areas have recovered from cholera. An unknown number is admitted to Gachororo health center.
Last Saturday, medics in Kajiado county issued a warning over a possible cholera outbreak after two cases were reported at Loitokitok Sub-county.
The Ministry of Health has cautioned members of the public to take extra care and practice high levels of hygiene to avoid cholera infection.
