Daystar University appeals for donations to help needy students
In his brief remarks, Prof Wachira encouraged students without food for the day to register with the Office of the vice chancellor for support
Daystar University has appealed for cash and food donations from the university community to support struggling students.
Deputy Vice Chancellor – Finance, Administration and Planning Prof Muturi Wachira, who spoke during chapel service at the main campus in Athi River, underscored the importance of caring for one another within and outside Daystar University.
“For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me,” he said, quoting Matthew 25:34-35.
In his brief remarks, Prof Wachira encouraged students without food for the day to register with the office of the vice chancellor for support.
At the same, he also called on staff and faculty who can donate cash or food items to register with the Office of the Vice Chancellor to support students who cannot meet their needs.
Prof Wachira was responding to a sermon delivered by Rev Evans Agoya, a Daystar alumnus and pastor with Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM), who preached on compassion and care from Ephesians 4:32.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God has forgiven you,” said Rev. Agoya. He urged the Daystar University community to practice forgiveness, embrace one another, and support each other for collective growth and prosperity.
“Let us strive to help one another [and] ensure those around us are happy,” said Rev Agoya as he urged community members to show kindness to one another, draw close to those who are struggling, and to keep unity through the bond of peace.
Since the appeal was made, 15 students have registered with the Office of the Vice Chancellor and been referred to the University Chaplaincy for assistance through the Dorcas Pantry Ministry.
According to the Deputy Chaplain Rev Josphat Kimacia, students who were referred to the Chaplaincy by the Vice Chancellor’s Office were facilitated with a meal on Tuesday. The Dorcas Pantry receives cash and dry foods donations through the Chaplaincy.
The chapel service was attended by students, faculty, staff and members of management.
