Dawn crash involving bus and matatu kill 10 at Karai in Naivasha
A fatal dawn crash involving a matatu and a bus at the Karai area of Naivasha along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway has killed ten people including two minors.
The incident which occurred at around 2am today involved a Nairobi-bound Grenline bus that collided head-on with a Nakuru-bound Nanyuki cabs shuttle at Karai area.
Nine people died on the spot, eight from the shuttle and a small child from the bus.
Scores who sustained injuries were taken to Naivasha District Hospital for medical attention.
According to sources, five among those receiving treatment are in critical condition. Thirty-five people, among them five children, were received at the Naivasha hospital.
According to the police, at the time of the accident, the bus was travelling from Nakuru to Nairobi while the matatu was heading in the opposite direction.
The latest incident comes days after six people were killed in a separate road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway at the Kikopey area in Gilgil, where a trailer collided with a matatu.
In another incident reported on Friday, January 2, six passengers were killed in a road crash along Mombasa Road at Katumani near Konza City after a bus collided with a matatu. Seven others were critically injured in that accident.
