Court told that Jowie asked for paraffin to ‘burn things’ on the night of Monica’s murder

One of the witnesses in Monica Kimani murder case told the High Court that murder suspect Joseph Irungu called him on the night of the murder asking for paraffin to burn some things.

Appearing before Justice Grace Nzioka, Brian Kasaine said Jowie gave him a WhatsApp call at around 2:00 am to ask if he had paraffin or anything flammable like air refresher in the house.

“I was asleep with my wife when his call woke me up. He enquired if I had paraffin in my house. I asked him why he needed the paraffin, and he said there were things he wanted to burn. I, thereafter, told him that I did not have the flammable substance,” said Kasaine.

“I got surprised at such request of those items by him such late hours,” he disclosed.

Kasaine, who was Jacque Maribe’s neighbor at Royal Park estate in Lang’ata, added that at around 3:00 pm later that day, he met Jowie along the corridors on his way to Maribe’s House.

“I wanted to borrow their car keys so that I could go and pick up my son from school. He(Jowie) was wearing a white vest, grey sweat pants. He was in deep thought and distracted,” he said.

He said that jokingly, he asked Irungu the purpose of paraffin Jowie replied “I was with Muhoho yesterday for an assignment and he stabbed somebody.”

Kasaine also recounted the events of the night that Jowie shot himself.

He told the court that Jowie who had earlier borrowed his firearm had a fall-out with then fiance Maribe before shooting himself, reportedly protesting being evicted from Maribe’s house

“Irungu was lying down and he was bleeding I secured the firearm from the house, then I went and now took him to the hospital,” Kasaine said.

He later rushed Jowie to Nairobi West Hospital in the company of Maribe and his wife however, he could not be admitted since they did not have Sh50,000 deposit.
