Court detains woman facing serial fraud charges

While denying her bond, Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina considered the affidavit filed by the prosecution seeking her detention since she has been in the run since 2019,

“I have considered the submissions by the prosecution noting that the accused person has another matter of the same nature in Thika law court where she failed to appear for trial,” the magistrate said.

Onyina also noted that Teresia Wanjiru Boro has other similar matter in the same court and at Thika law courts where she was charged in 2019 and released on bond but failed to appear before the court for trial.

“It is evidence that the accused person misconducted by going into hiding until this year when she was arrested and charged with the current offences,” the magistrate stated.

The magistrate ordered Wanjiru to be detained in custody as hearing of the matter proceeds, saying she is a flight risk and has been cited for misconduct in the Thika court.

Wanjiru was charged with obtaining money by false pretences which is against the law.

On February 20, 2024, in Nairobi county with intent to defraud obtained Ksh 3.8 million from Eva Waithira Kimuhu in pretences that she was financing the purchase of dry maize in Eldoret which was a false fact.

In another charge, she obtained Ksh 1,145,000 from Bernard Ngirita Chege.

She was further charged with obtaining Ksh 581,000 from David Kamau Kimemia also pretending she was financing the the purchase of dry maize.

She was detained in custody as the case proceeds for pre-trial on March 28 and consolidation of the files before the Milimani court.
