Chaos mar IDPs compensation in Nyandarua

Controversy has hit sharing of the Sh 382 million for compensation of 7600 integrated IDPs in Nyandarua County after more than 200 people protested yesterday after failing to find their names in the list of those to benefit.

Deputy President William Ruto delivered the money on Sunday.

The money is part of Sh2.2 billion set side by the government to pay 44,500 integrated IDPs in 17 counties across the country.

But many IDPs in Nyandarua found their names missing from the list when they went to check at the Assistant county commissioner’s office in Ol kalolu.

They alleged most of the names on the list are fake and called on the government to suspend the compensation process to ascertain the genuine IDPs.

Their Nyandarua coordinator, James Mwaura, was not immediately available to react to their claims.

Beth Wairimu said she was chased from Uasin Gishu in 2008 and has never received even a coin from the government.

“We wonder where our names are. We registered at the chiefs’ office”, she said.

Simon Kariuki said he voted at Langas primary school, Eldoret in December 2007.

“But now I cannot get even Sh 50,000,while there are people who got sh 400,000.Why does the government fail to ensure justice”, he said

Gathoni Wamwere who was chased from Kitale said those entrusted with the Nyandarua integrated IDPs are tarnishing name of the presidents.
