Champions KCB on a roll as KDF lose two matches

National Women’s Volleyball club defending Champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) humbled Nairobi Prisons 3-0 in an exciting third leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation League action at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Under the guidance of head coach Japheth Munala, the Bankers delivered a commanding performance, securing a straight-sets victory (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) over their opponents.
Speaking after the victory, head coach Japheth Munala said: “Our reception, attacks and blocks worked perfectly well today. I am proud of the girls for listening to the coaches and for showcasing amazing volleyball. We started the season on a high and it is my hope that we will maintain the same momentum to move up the ladder in the log standings.”
Following Juliana Namutira’s ankle injury, youngster Faith Cherotich started for the Munala-led side alongside Edith Wisa, Marlene Terry, Fridah Boke, Belinda Barasa, Lincy Jeruto, and Mercy Moim.
The inclusion of Marlene Terry and Fridah Boke has been the key to KCB’s recent success. Their skills, passion and quality has given a different dimension to Munala’s team.
“Since Esther Mutinda is sidelined for the season, I am happy with the young players who have joined the team and are showing a strong desire to win. We need such aggressiveness and determination to propel this team to greater heights,” added Munala.
Meanwhile, in an eagerly awaited match in the KVF National Women’s League, the third leg saw Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) dominate the game against Kenya Army. Held at the Nyayo National Stadium, the match served off at mid-morning with an enthusiastic crowd cheering on both teams.
KPC showcased their superior skills and teamwork right from the start. In the first set, they quickly established their dominance, finishing with a commanding score of 25:14. The second set mirrored the first, with KPC maintaining their momentum and once again overpowering Kenya Army with the same scoreline of 25:14.
The third set saw Kenya Army putting up a stronger resistance, but KPC’s relentless offense and strategic plays proved too much for their opponents. KPC secured the final set with a score of 25:18, sealing their victory in straight sets.
In another contest, The atmosphere was electric at Nyayo National Stadium on the 25th of January, 2025, as *Post Bank of Kenya (PBK)* faced off against the *Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)in the third leg of the KVF National Women’s League.
The first set saw KDF putting in a valiant effort but ultimately falling short as Post Bank edged them out with a score of 25-22.
The second set, however, belonged to Kenya Defence Force who rallied but lost 21-25 finish. The tension was palpable as the teams entered the third set, each determined to gain the upper hand. It was a nail-biting clash, but KDF clinched the set with a close 25-22 victory.
In the fourth set, both teams were relentless, pushing each other to the limit. The excitement reached fever pitch as Post Bank managed to narrowly close it out with a 25-21 win, securing their overall victory.
