KPA MD Ruto’s daughter burial set for this Friday in Kabarak, Nakuru
The family of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Captain William Ruto has announced that his daughter, Mitchell Jelimo Kemboi, will be laid to rest on Friday, April 10, 2026, at their home in Kabarak, Nakuru County.
Mitchell tragically lost her life in a road accident last Friday, April 3, 2026 in Taveta constituency, Taita Taveta County.
She was travelling with her family to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania for the Easter holiday when their vehicle rammed into a stationary trailer that had reportedly broken down without any warning signage.
She died on the spot, while the other occupants were injured and rushed to hospital.
There were five family members in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The injured, including Captain Ruto, have since been treated and discharged, and are now recuperating at home.
According to the funeral programme released by the family, a fundraiser to support funeral expenses will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Mochongoi in Baringo South Constituency starting at 2 p.m.
On Wednesday, Mitchell’s body will be moved from a Mombasa hospital mortuary and transported to Nakuru County.
A funeral service will then be held at Mochongoi on Thursday from 10 a.m., ahead of the burial at the family’s Kabarak home on Friday.
In a statement, KPA expressed its condolences to the family, describing Mitchell’s death as a great loss.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and all friends during this difficult time. May God grant them comfort and strength. Rest well, Mitchell. Sleep in eternal peace,” the authority said.
Following the accident, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that Captain Ruto was out of danger.
Speaking at the Mombasa hospital where the KPA boss was receiving treatment, Murkomen said the managing director was in stable condition after undergoing medical evaluation.
“Doctors have confirmed that he is stable after a thorough medical check-up. According to hospital protocols, he remains under medical care,” he said, adding that he had personally visited and consoled the family.
The news of Captain Ruto’s recovery was received with relief among KPA staff and the wider public.
Several leaders have since visited the family at their Mombasa home to offer support, including President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Msambweni MP Feisal Abdallah, and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, who also played a key role in facilitating the family’s evacuation from Taveta to Mombasa for emergency treatment.
The family has expressed gratitude for the support and prayers received during the difficult period, even as they begin preparations to lay their daughter to rest.
Meanwhile, KPA employees held special prayer sessions yesterday in solidarity with their managing director and his family, with many still in shock over the tragic loss.
