Rift Valley MP under probe over sudden wealth
A Rift Valley Member of Parliament (MP), known for his vocal criticism of the opposition and ostentatious lifestyle, is under scrutiny by investigators over the source of his sudden wealth.
The lawmaker recently raised eyebrows after completing a high-profile property transaction in Parklands, Nairobi.
Sources say he offered to buy a five-storey building for Sh105 million, insisting that the payment be made entirely in cash, with no bank documentation. The property owner, reportedly stunned by the offer, accepted the terms, and the transaction was finalised with the MP delivering the cash in full.
Investigators are now examining the origins of the MP’s wealth, which they suspect may be linked to economic crimes. The case has drawn attention due to the public nature of the transaction and the large sum of liquid cash involved, raising concerns over money laundering and illicit financial activities.
Authorities have yet to comment officially, but sources indicate that the probe will focus on tracing the MP’s income streams, examining both business dealings and personal finances.
