Blow to media fraternity as Standard Group journalist Shadrack Mitty die in hospital after short ailment
The Media fraternity has been thrust into mourning following the sudden demise of Standard Media Group journalist Shadrack Mitty died at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital minutes past midnight today, where he was undergoing treatment.
He was unwell at the time of his demise, and his condition had deteriorated as of Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
It is reported that he was suffering from blood disease for an undisclosed amount of time before his untimely demise.
Mitty, a seasoned educational reporter, covered many key events such as the transition of the educational system from the 8-4-4 curriculum to the new CBC.
The media fraternity as well as education stakeholders joined his colleagues at the Standard Group in expressing their condolences following Mitty’s passing.
Standard Group Broadcast Deputy Editor Ken Mijungu remembered Mitty as an individual with “unquestionable dedication and unrivalled professionalism.”
“A friendly team member whose contacts in the education sector made all the difference in our work. He was a good man, a perfect gentleman.” Mijungu said.
Mitty was a seasoned reporter on the education beat at the organisation, having covered key events such as the transition of the new education curriculum to CBC, from the 8-4-4 system, and reported on several KCSE and KCPE examination intakes. He also covered international matters in education.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of our colleague Shadrach Mitty. I have known Mitty as a very focused, composed, and dedicated reporter with an unrivaled passion for education stories. We will surely miss him. May the Almighty Lord give his family and friends strength during this difficult moment.” Broadcast and Innovation Editor, Kizito Namulanda said.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) eulogised Mitty, stating that: “It is with deep sorrow that we have learnt of the death of Shadrack Mitty of KTN News. Mitty was a talented reporter who always produced balanced, informative stories on education matters.” KNEC said.
Mitty previously served under QTV for 5 years where he worked from 2012 to 2016 before moving to the Standard Group.
