Nairobi is bracing for an electric atmosphere tomorrow, December 7, 2025 as Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards face off in the 98th edition of the Mashemeji Derby at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
The highly anticipated clash, scheduled for a 3 PM kick-off at Nyayo National Stadium, carries more than just bragging rights; it’s a battle for position and pride in the 2025/2026 SportPesa Premier League season.
This year’s derby introduces a historic first: a women’s match between Gor Mahia Queens and AFC Leopardess will precede the men’s game, creating an unprecedented double-header.
Gor Mahia Vice Chairperson Sally Bolo championed the move, urging fans to arrive early and support both squads in a full day celebrating Kenyan football.
“If you think the men bring fire, just wait until you see the ladies deliver premium football,” Bolo noted in a social media post.
Currently, Gor Mahia sits at the top the league with 19 points, while AFC Leopards are in sixth place with 14 points.
The derby’s journey to Sunday has been fraught with logistical hurdles. Initially planned for late November, the match was postponed twice due to the unavailability of both Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums, which were booked for a CAF Confederation Cup match and the World AIDS Day national ceremony, respectively.
Despite the delays, the anticipation among the passionate fanbases of K’Ogalo (Gor Mahia) and Ingwe (AFC Leopards) has only intensified.
