Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri named person of interest in Stuchburry murder

Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has been named as a person of interest in the ongoing investigations of the brutal murder of conservationist Joannah Stutchbury.

The 67-year-old environment activist was shot dead in July this year near her home after receiving multiple death threats following her campaign against the development of wetlands in a national park.

Appearing before the Senate Security Committee which is probing the matter, Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko revealed that there was a dispute between Ngunjiri and Stutchbury before her brutal murder.

“That is an affidavit that was filed on behalf of Agropack.. I am not making any insinuations because it is not within my limits but I know its is relevant, that is an affidavit sworn by one Kimani Onesmus Ngunjiri,” Tobiko submitted.

Referring to a case before the Kiambu law courts in 2018, Tobiko submitted that Stutchbury relentlessly fought against Agropack Limited, a company in which Ngunjiri is the director, who were out to grab Kenya Forest Service land.

Agropack Limited had a case against KFS as the fisrt defendant and Stutchbury as the second respondent.

Stuchburry managed to scuttle the plans of Agropack limited to create a road that connects to the MP’s parcel of land namely LR no. 25009.

Stutchbury was killed as she returned to her home near Windsor Country Club at around 10pm.

She had stopped her car to clear branches blocking her driveway when she was shot several times.

Neighbours found her body in the car with the engine still running and valuables still in the vehicle, suggesting the attack was not a robbery.
