Babu Owino says his security withdrawn, says he will not be intimidated
According to the MP, when elected representatives are punished for standing with the people, it is a sign of a government that fears accountability, not one that serves
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has claimed that the government has withdrawn his security.
In a statement posted on his social media handles, the legislator has alleged that the withdrawal is a retaliation by the government after he supported the Gen Z protest yesterday by joining them.
In the statement, Owino said that protesting is his democratic right, which he was exercising.
“Yesterday, I stood with the people, not against the nation, but for its future. I exercised my democratic right to protest peacefully against the actions of a government that is failing its citizens. Today, in retaliation, the government has withdrawn my official security,” he said.
Owino said the withdrawal of his security is an attack on democracy and that he will not be intimidated.
He added that Kenyans are his security.
“It is an attack on democracy itself. When elected representatives are punished for standing with the people, it is a sign of a government that fears accountability, not one that serves. I do not fear intimidation. I will not be silenced. My voice, and the voice of every citizen demanding justice, fairness, and freedom, will only grow louder. Kenyans are my security,” he stated.
The ODM legislator has further urged Kenyans to stay united, adding that the justice movement shall not be stopped.
“To the public: stay alert, stay united, and know that your leaders should answer to you, not threaten those who stand beside you. The truth cannot be suppressed. The justice movement cannot be stopped. We will not back down,” he urged.
Yesterday, Owino was among the top key leaders who came out in solidarity with Gen Zs as they marked the first anniversary of those who were killed during last year’s anti-Finance Bill and anti-government protest.
