Embattled former Kanu SG Salat join President Ruto camp, damp Moi

The embattled former Kenya National Africa Union (Kanu) Secretary General Nick Salat has damped his longtime allay and Kanu chairman and pledged support for president William Ruto following an acrimonious fallout with the former Baringo Senator.

Salat announced his severance of ties with Moi while he joined the president during an interdenominational prayer service in Bomet County yesterday saying he has cut off ties with the independence party and its leader, Moi.

“I am back. I have suffered for a long time. The preacher delivered a summon about someone who went away and got lost, but later returned home. That is me. But I have returned.” Salat said.

Salat was suspended by Kanu end last year over alleged misconduct and violation of the party constitution, told the President he had made a decision to return to his fold.

“I will no longer stay away from you. Wherever you are, I will be. Please accept me back. I know you (William Ruto) will be President for 10 years. I saw the great reception that you were accorded in Nyanza and I cannot be left behind.” He added

Leaders attending the meeting led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua welcomed the decision by Salat to ditch Kanu noting it was long overdue.

“Nick Salat is a good leader. I was in KANU with him back in the day. He has been misused and on top of that he has been chased away like a dog. It is wrong. He has lost 15 years. He is welcome to work with us, we have enough room to accommodate him.” Gachagua said.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also described Salat as a good leader. He said he knew him from the days Salat’s father Isaac worked with his late father Moses Mudavadi and asked him stay firm on the path he had chosen to take.

“Nick Salat, you are a good man and you have lost a good 15 years. This time round, stick with your brother the President William Ruto,” said Mudavadi
