Speaker Ken Ng’ondi hosts President Ruto and Raila at His Kagan home in Homa Bay county
The Nairobi County Assembly Ken Ng’ondi hosted President William Ruto at his mother’s Kagan village home in Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay county on Friday, May 30, 2025.
The Head of State and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga paid Speaker Ng’ondi an impromptu courtesy call at the family home, while on their extensive development tour of the lake region county in Nyanza, ahead of Sunday Madaraka Day celebrations.
This year’s June 1 Madaraka Day national celebrations that were held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay county, marked 62 years of internal self-rule in pomp and circumstance.
President Ruto officiated the state ceremony, which was graced by the visiting Slovenia President, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar as the chief guest.
Earlier, on Friday, at Speaker Ng’ondi’s home, President Ruto had a hearty conversation and light moment with the elderly family matriarch, Mrs Ng’ondi in her house.
Mr Odinga and several Members of Nairobi City County Assembly were present during the impromptu visit by the head of state, among other political leaders from Homa Bay county.
Speaker Ng’ondi thanked the president for the great honour and appreciation he extended to his mother, Mrs Ng’ondi and the entire Ng’ondi family by his courtesy call.
”I feel so honored and blessed that President Ruto and Prime Minister Odinga took time off their busy schedule to visit my mother’s home in Kagan village”, he told the media.
An elated Speaker said: “I am very privileged to have hosted them here at home, together with Members of Nairobi County Assembly”.
Ng’ondi praised President Ruto’s development tour of Nyanza, terming it a leap forward in development. He noted that the tour exhibited the President’s goodwill and commitment towards spreading development to all regions of the country.
Speaker Ng’ondi welcomed President on his surprise visit to the village, alongside Odinga and a host of other leaders, including Members of Nairobi County Assembly MCAs.
”Homa Bay county is hosting the national Madaraka Day celebration. As the Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly, I wish Nairobi residents and all Kenyans a happy Madaraka and urge them to be proud of their country”.
Ng’ondi said the president’s development agenda had shifted from Nairobi, where recently gave keys to owners of New Mukuru Estate affordable housing project, to Nyanza where the Head of State and Raila commissioned numerous development projects.
”This is the Kenya that we all deserve, where no part of the country is left behind in development”, Speaker Ng’ondi added.
He called on Kenyans to support the broad-based government initiated by President Ruto and Odinga, saying the country needed political stability to propel development and growth of all economic sectors.
During the Friday visit to Ng’ondi’s village home, the President and the ODM party leader had a chance to exchange pleasantries with the Speaker’s mother and family members, as well as several residents of Kagan neighborhood.
Speaker Ng’ondi termed the visit a dream come true for him in his political career. He served as deputy speaker in the First County Assembly.
”I am indeed happy that out of his busy schedule, the President found some time to pay us a visit at my mother’s home and to me this is a dream come true”, said the Speaker.
”I feel so honored and I also thank the people of Nairobi who have given me the opportunity to serve them as Speaker of the County Assembly. This would not have been made possible were it not for the great people of Nairobi”, he added.
Further, Ng’ondi thanked Nairobi MCAs who accompanied him on the visit.
