Amnesty International calls for protection of activist Mwikali Mwagodi
The lobby said the silence of both the Tanzanian and Kenyan governments during his prolonged detention, transportation and abandonment is deeply troubling
Amnesty International has called for for independent, impartial investigations, accountability in the East African Court of Justice, as well as protection for activist Mwikali Mwagodi and other activists who face increased risks across East Africa following his ordeal after being adducted in Tanzania.
In a statement, the humans right body said it is recommitted in its solidarity with all those working to defend human rights across the region today.
“Amnesty International welcomes the news that Kenyan activist Mwabili Mwagodi has been found alive after Mwabili Mwagodi’s enforced disappearance in Tanzania. We salute the public pressure generated by his family, the public, and the leadership of VOCAL Africa and Muslims for Human Rights (Muhuri), as well as others,” it said.

It said it welcomes the news that Mwagodi was found alive afterhis enforced disappearance in Tanzania and saluted the public pressure generated by his family, the public, and the leadership of Vocal Africa and Muslims for Human Rights (Muhuri), as well as others.
“The silence of both Tanzanian and Kenyan governments during his prolonged detention, transportation and abandonment is deeply troubling. We reiterate our call for independent, impartial investigations, accountability in the East African Court of Justice, as well as protection for Mwagodi and other activists who face increased risks. We also recommit our solidarity with all working to defend human rights across East Africa today,” it added.
Mwagodi wmas found early Sunday in Kinodo in Kwale with the family saying security agencies have been trailing their kin over his mobilisation of Gen Zs on social media, including last year’s revolt that sunk the Finance Bill.
