Ambani warns of sweeping changes at Ingwe if he clinches top seat
The 42-year-old, who is a sibling to current AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani, has also called out a stern warning to players to deliver
With barely a fortnight left ahead of the AFC Leopards Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect new officials, one contestant is calling for changes in club operations.
Former Ingwe legend and ex-international Boniface Ambani has warned that if elected to the chairmanship, it would not be business as usual at the 61 year old club.
The retired striker, who has also had a stint in the past as AFC Cubs coach and a technical director at Mara Sugar FC, decried the declining fortunes for the 13 times league winners.
“It is time for change and under my leadership, we will witness massive things. Our club has suffered a lot indeed mismanagement and also sub par performances. The time for all that is soon to be gone. We must make sacrifices and bring the glory days to AFC Leopards back. The fans and menbers have registered their disappointment and it is now upon the upcoming new office to deliver. I want to promise that, I will take the lead in transforming this great club,” he said after recently being cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Kasarani Constituency.
Ambani who had stints also in Yanga SC and now defunct Oserian FC has promised to leverage on his networks to ensure the club resurrected and became competitive. “All of us must have a responsibility for Ingwe. We cannot lament eternally so I want to lead in bringing goodwill to our club.We need to see more sponsorship but more importantly it is about full accountability. There is no excuse whatsoever because that is what the members want,” he added.

“We need a quality squad to compete for titles. We need to get back to continental football. The last time we won the league was 27 years ago which is unacceptable. I see no need to have a big squad of 36 players which is unsustainable to the wage bill of this community club.I will not interfere with technical bench affairs but under my administration ,I will not allow for instance foreigners who add no value to the team.”
“Things have to change and that I promise,” stated Ambani.
He is set to lock heads with Enos Mutokah for the prime leadership spot in the June 29 elections slated for Moi Kasarani Stadium Indoor Arena.
