AFC Leopards Secretary General Gilbert Andugu passes on

AFC Leopards SC is mourning the passing on of its Secretary General Gilbert Andugu who died after a short illness at a Kitengela hospital early today.
A short statement on the club’s social media accounts stated: “We are deeply saddened by the news of passing on of our Secretary General Mr. Gilbert Andugu. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Andugu’s family, friends and relatives. May his soul Rest in Peace.”
The late Andugu, who was a marketer by profession, was serving his first term having been elected in June 2022, but had announced that he would not be seeking reelection in next month’s polls. He had been unwell and, therefore, cited personal reasons for his decision to step aside.
Prior to being elected as Ingwe Secretary General, Andugu previously led the Mombasa branch from 2015, playing a key role in growing its membership base and financing the AFC Leopards Cubs.
Andugu oversaw several structural improvements, notably within the club’s human resource department, which he left more streamlined and efficient.
“I have given my all in service to the club, and it’s time for new ideas and new leadership. I remain a passionate supporter of Ingwe and will continue supporting the club from the stands,” said Andugu in his last interview.
Before assuming the role, Andugu served as chairman of the branch heads and had built a reputation for his organisational skills. He took over from Oliver Shikuku, who had served the maximum two terms allowed by the club’s constitution.
Condolences messages have been pouring in following the death of Andugu.
Former AFC Leopards striker and contestant for the chairman position, Boniface Ambani said in a Facebook post;
“A moment of silence. The club loses its sitting Secretary-General Gilbert.”
Robert Situma Omusawa, who is seeking to become the next SG, in his message of condolence said: “I have learnt the sad news of the death of our club Secretary General Mr. Glibert Andugu. On my own behalf and that of my family, I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the entire AFC Leopards fraternity, especially the Mombasa branch .His death is a profound loss to us all as AFC Leopards sports club family.”

As a friend and competitor during the last club elections where I came second to you, you kept our friendship and sportsmanship .May your soul rest in eternal peace, and may your legacy continue to inspire and guide us as we move forward.
