Abuse of office case against police impostor Waiganjo, others to be heard on July 26
An abuse of office case against police impostor Joshua Waiganjo, former Rift-valley Provincial Police Officer John M’Mbijiwe and Former anti-stock theft unit commandant Remy Ngugi was today moved to July 26 after the prosecution applied for more time to locate witnesses in the matter.
The prosecution side who have lined up 30 more witnesses in the case urged the court to allow them two months to be able to locate some crucial witnesses in the case before the next hearing date.
According to them, the date given by the court of June 5 will not be ample time for them to locate all the 30 witnesses and prepare for the case in good time.
“We have 30 witnesses in the matter and we would like ample time to locate and prepare for the matter,”
Appearing before principal magistrate Joe Omido yesterday for the mention of their case, the former police bosses are facing charges in relation to Waiganjo’s illegal recruitment and operations within the police force in 2012. They are accused of allowing the imposter unwarranted access and use of police vehicles including an aircraft besides allocating him an armed personal driver contrary to the law.
Former Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere who was to testify in the matter had been summoned to shed light on the appointment of convicted police imposter Joshua Waiganjo which reportedly happened during his time at the helm.
Mr Iteere had severally been linked with the appointment of the police impostor and according several people who have testified in court they all said Waiganjo had immense powers because he enjoyed the protection of the former police boss.
