IEBC has slapped presidential election petitioners with a Sh80 million bill to print the national voters’ register.
Chief Justice David Maraga said the two petitioners – Njonjo Mue and Khelef Khalifa – should bear the cost of the request.
“If you want the copy, you should be prepared them,” he said on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court began hearing the petition challenging Uhuru Kenyatta’s election in the repeat presidential election.
Harun Ndubi who is representing the petitioners said the amount is too high and they cannot comply with the demand.
He said the electoral agency told them that they could only print instead of photocopy the register.
“Our agents cannot extract any details for scrutiny. IEBC is dictating how we should take the evidence. They have even confiscated our phones.
They just want us to look and not present anything before this court,” he argued.
