Kisumu County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim was today forced to cut short his Madaraka day celebrations speech as residents demanded explanation on shortage of government subsidized unga.
The commissioner had just finished reading the President’s speech and began to give his own when the locals started shouting complaining over the shortage of the commodity in the town.
They raised complaints that they could not access the subsidized flour from various supermarkets, depots and other shop outlets.
But reacting to their complaints, Maalim assured that the government had provided enough subsidized flour in the county.
He said the commodity is available in supermarkets and shops within the county.
“The government subsidized four is available in all depots, supermarkets and shops. You can visit the outlets and get the commodity at Sh 90,” said Maalim.
Chants of unga shortage continued to rent the air forcing the commissioner to bow to the pressure by calling area governor Jack Ranguma to address the gathering.
On election maters, Maalim called on area political aspirants to maintain peace during their campaigns, saying the government will not tolerate leaders who jeopardize peace in the electioneering period.
