The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigators detained six members of the Makueni County Assembly yesterday for illegally claiming and receiving Sh175,018.50 each in full per diem for a privately sponsored vacation to Dubai.
The accused who made the journey seven years ago will be charged before the Makueni Anti-Corruption Court today, according to the EACC.
“The private Dubai trip, which was fully sponsored by the then MP, Hon Patrick Musimba was undertaken from 14/04/2014 to 21/04/2014. Upon return, the MCAs fraudulently claimed and received Sh175,018.50 each as per diem, which they were not entitled to,” EACC said.
Timothy Sirei Maneno, Bernard Wambua, Cosmas Mutunga, Bensley Mwania, John Muli and Bernard Muthoka are the six MCAs that have been charged.
They will face charges alongside Edward Libendi, the then-Clerk of Assembly, who facilitated the unlawful payments.
The accused persons were processed at Makueni Police Station and released on bond pending arraignment in court today.
