The Building Bridges Initiative secretariat has said it has so far collected 1.5 million signatures four days after launch.
On Monday, the co-chairperson Dennis Waweru and Junet Mohammed said in a statement that they are optimistic of surpassing 4 million signatures by the end of the week.
“We therefore project that we will be done with the exercise by end of the week and move to the next step,” read the statement.
The National secretariat appealed to Kenyans especially young people to continue coming out in large numbers and participate in the ‘historic’ exercise.
Furthermore, they urged hardliners to take time and read the Bill which will make them realize that it is a well thought out document and not about President Uhuru Kenyatta or ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The collection of signatures for the BBI) was formally launched on November 25 at the KICC which was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga.
On Friday, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya launched the Nakuru BBI signature collection.
In Western the BBI signature collection drive was launched by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
In Nyeri County, divisions rocked the process with a split among the leadership over the exercise.
A section of leaders demanded for more representative seats in the county to back the process.
According to the secretariat, they are expected to submit the signatures and the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020 to the IEBC on December 9 for verification.
The Constitution says that if IEBC is satisfied with the signatures, it will submit the draft Bill to each county assembly for consideration within three months after the date it was submitted.
