Chief Justice David Maraga says that judges and magistrates will remain neutral in the August 8 polls.
Maraga said the judiciary does not have any political alignment and called on judges handling election petitions to deal with the petitions in a fair manner.
The CJ who was addressing journalists after officially opening the annual judges colloquium in Mombasa, said there was no division in the judiciary on political parties linings and that the purported division was a creation of people out to paint judicial officers in the wrong way.
“Those are mere creations of people out there, and I would like to categorically state that judiciary is not divided at all,” he said.
The CJ pointed out that disputes arising from election would be resolved on the basis of law, since the judiciary was aware that political parties and candidates were fighting and “bullying” each other.
He noted that the judiciary was well prepared to hear and determine election petition within the required period as set in the Constitution.
