A survey has revealed that the average number of sexual partners among Kenyan men is at 7.4.
In the report dubbed the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) 2022, KNBS found out that among Kenyan women, the average number of sexual partners is 2.3.
In the 12 months before the survey, 19 per cent of women had intercourse with a person who neither was their husband nor lived with them.
However, only 37 per cent of these women reported using a condom during their last sexual intercourse with such a partner.
On the other hand, the survey revealed that 63 per cent of currently married women use a contraceptive.
Fifty-seven per cent of them were found to be using modern methods such as sterilisation, injectables, intrauterine devices (IUDs), contraceptive pills, implants, condoms, emergency contraception, the standard days method, and the lactational amenorrhea method.
Among currently married women, the most commonly used methods are injectables at 20 percent, implants at 19 percent, and contraceptive pills at 8 percent.
Among sexually active unmarried women, male condoms are the most commonly used contraceptive method standing at 20 percent, followed by injectables at 16 and implants at 11 percent.
