An autopsy examination on the body of murdered LGBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich alias Chiloba has revealed that he was smothered to death with socks found in his mouth.
Chief Government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor confirmed after conducting the autopsy adding that he died from lack of oxygen and had no physical injuries.
“We did not find any injuries on the deceased’s body and that is why we took samples to know why he did not resist at the time of his murder,” Oduor said.
He added that they discovered three pieces of socks stuffed into the deceased’s mouth, cutting off his air supply, and a pair of denim pants covering his mouth and nose during the autopsy.
“We also found socks meant to interfere with his breathing stuffed inside his mouth,” he added.
The pathologist however dismissed claims that the late activist’s eyes were gouged out during the murder.
According to him, the deceased’s body was not damaged, and those who first saw him might have mistakened the sunken eyes caused by decomposition, for removal.
Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo on Monday granted the police 21 days to hold the suspects linked to Chiloba’s gruesome murder in order to facilitate the completion of investigations.
The five include Jackton Odhiambo who is the prime suspect alongside Dennis Litali and three minors.
Chiloba’s lifeless body was found stuffed in a metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road in Eldoret.
Eyewitnesses reported a vehicle with a hidden registration number was spotted dropping the metallic box.
