The Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome alongside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohammed Amin have attended the East African Police Chief’s Cooperation Organisation’s (EAPCCO’s) 24th annual general meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
They were accompanied by National Police Service (NPS) Director of Human Capital Development Rosemary Kumaru, SAIG and Director Training APS, Abraham Jilo, African Union Police Component Planning Officer from KPS, Lilian Okembo, CP, among others.
In their meetings, the regional police organisations announced an operation on human trafficking, illicit firearms, drug trafficking and theft of motor vehicles with an aim of reducing them by half.
The meeting themed ‘promoting best practices in the fight against terrorism and transnational organised crimes’ will run till tomorrow.
EAPCCO is a regional police body whose membership consists of heads of police organisations with an objective of harmonising and strengthening police co-operation, joint strategies, sharing of crime related information and harmonization of laws in order to enhance the capacity of Law Enforcement Agencies to combat transnational organised crime.
It brings Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Seychelles, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti together against crime and promotes investments and cross-border cooperation by fighting cross-border crime.
