Narok county Senator Ledama Ole Kina has made a commitment to his party leader Raila Odinga that he would keep the Parliament on toss after being named the Deputy Minority Whip in the Senate.
The Senator has expressed gratitude to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader on his social media pages and pledged to keep his word.
“Thank you Raila Odinga, I shall deliver. God willing,” said Ole Kina who is serving was first elected Narok Senator in the 2017 General Election.
This after Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the names of the House leadership yesterday.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot was named Majority Leader with Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja as his deputy.
Kakamega’s Boni Khalwale and Samburu Senator Steve Lelegwe were named Majority Whip and Deputy Majority Whip respectively.
Senators Stewart Madzayo (Kilifi) and Enoch Wambua (Kitui) clinched the positions of Minority Leader and Deputy Minority Leader respectively.
Before the modifications, Azimio One Kenya Alliance had chosen Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to serve as the Deputy Minority Whip.
Senator Ole Kina has fought courageously for the job despite his support for Odinga.
Two weeks ago, OleKina and MP Babu Owino of Embakasi East stirred up controversy inside the ODM by alleging that the party failed to include young legislators while recommending candidates for posts on the House committee.
The two criticised the party for ignoring the younger members of the party and favoring the senior party members with important House committee posts.
Senator Ole Kina threatened to leave the party if the younger lawmakers in the party were not given the opportunity to take the reins.
The pair’s outspoken opposition to the party raised some eyebrows within the party, with several members pointing out that Owino would not have been able to run for office without the support of Odinga throughout the years.
