President William Ruto will today officially open the 13th Parliament at the bicameral house’s first joint sitting.
According to Article 132 (1) (a) of the Constitution, the Head of State is mandated to address the beginning of each newly elected Parliament, according to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and his Senate counterpart Amason Kingi.
“Following a notification by the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, William Ruto, CGH, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Speaker of the Senate have scheduled a joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament to take place on Thursday, 29th September, 2022 commencing at 2.30 pm for purposes of opening of the 13th Parliament,” read part of the notice.
The Head of State is anticipated to highlight the primary initiatives and policies his administration will pursue in accordance with the bottom-up economic paradigm on which he passionately ran for office.
The Speakers of the Houses of Parliament must inform Members of the location, date, and time of a joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament called pursuant to Article 132(1) of the Constitution in accordance with Standing Order 22(2) of the National Assembly Standing Orders and Standing Order 25(2) of the Senate Standing Orders.
“The public and all members of parliament are thus informed that the 13th Parliament will convene on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 2.30 pm in the National Assembly Chamber of the main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi,” the statement read.
