ODM leader Raila Odinga has summoned a Parliamentary Group meeting scheduled for next week to quell fallout in the party over house leadership before parliamentary sittings commence.
The meeting follows the current house leadership wrangles as several legislators showed interest in the leadership positions thus creating disagreement amongst party members.
Majority leader Opiyo Wandayi chaired a meeting at Safari Park Hotel where positioning of party members in parliamentary committees was discussed.
“We have already told our members to submit at least four committees in order of preference to the leadership for review and final decision,” Wandayi said.
The meeting will also present the names of the suggested chairpersons and vice chairperson for House committees.
Nyatike Member of Parliament Tom Odege, said that they would work with whoever the party picked.
“We have been told about the meeting and I hope this issue of leadership will be resolved once and for all. We can’t afford not to be united. We shall remain loyal to the party leader and work with the person he gives us. For now, he has given us Wandayi, we cannot contradict our party leader” he said.
The party was supposed to choose a leader, deputy leader, chief whips, and chairman of the watchdog committee in both the National Assembly as well as the Senate.
The meeting was previously scheduled to take place yesterday, but was postponed to next week due to the induction that is currently ongoing for Members of Parliament in Safari Park and senators in Naivasha which will both end on Saturday.
