Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has issued his congratulatory message to President William Ruto after his inauguration.
Through a statement, Atwoli also congratulated Ruto’s deputy Rigathi Gachagua on the successful assumption of office ceremony conducted the previous day.
He informed the new president that the workers union was ready and willing to work with his administration in bid for unity and reconciliation.
“As workers, we support the President’s call for unity and reconciliation as we hope and trust and call upon other Kenyans to have hands on deck,” Atwoli said.
The COTU head stated that it was necessary for everyone in the country to put their political differences aside and work together in building the country as the campaign period had come to an end.
“At such times it is wise to remember that Kenya is bigger than all of us, especially those who were involved in the political campaigns and bickering,” he continued.
The secretary general further added that if Kenyans fail to move in one direction and the country to descend into chaos as a result of politics then workers, women and children would suffer the most and the government should maintain an environment in which Kenyan workers can conduct their businesses efficiently.
“It has been our tradition to work with the government of the day which provides an environment where workers, through COTU employers through (FKE) and the government through the ministry of Labour, work in a tripartite structure,” COTU secretary general further added.
Atwoli lastly assured everyone in the country that the workers union was ready and willing to work with Ruto’s government in promoting the rights, unity and welfare of workers in the country.
