President – elect William Ruto has asked Kenyans to pray to President Uhuru Kenyatta for him to provide a conducive environment for a peaceful and smooth transition.
Ruto was speaking in Nakuru county alongside his Kenya Kwanza affiliated politicians for prayers as the country awaits the Supreme court verdict.
“We ask you Kenyans to pray for President Uhuru Kenyatta during this transition time, so that he can have a sound mind to lead Kenyans during this period, and we also pray that when he retires he will have the same respect given to him like those who have been before him,” Ruto said.
On the same breath, Ruto assured Kenyans that he will respect the Supreme Court verdict of the presidential petition challenging his victory.
The Deputy President who spoke in Nakuru on Sunday also urged Kenyans across the country to remain calm and respect the verdict.
“The Supreme Court will deliver its judgment on the Presidential election petition. Because we are a country that adheres to the law, we will equally respect the decision of the court. That is how we will be able to have an all-inclusive country. There are no bigger or lesser Kenyans, all Kenyans are equal before the law,” he said.
Ruto went further to say that it is the duty of every Kenyan regardless of their status to respect the rule of law if the country is to go forward.
“There is no other way of pushing Kenya forward, there is no other way of achieving economic prosperity. It is only through observing the rule of law and this will begin from me and all other leaders,” he said.
Ruto was attending an inter-denominational church service at Lamudiarc High School Grounds, Nakuru County.
He was accompanied at the church service by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kivutha Kibwana and Musalia Mudavadi among others.
