Three school going children have today recovered an unattended G3 rifle along Kisumu- Kakamega highway.
The three namely Brian Shikutwa, 14, Godreen Inida and Sabastian Imela both aged 12 years were heading to Shikondi primary school when they came across the rifle loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.
They immediately picked the rifle and safely delivered it to the Ikolomani patrol base which was well received and stored in the armoury section.
Police officers from Ikolomani patrol base accompanied the said pupils to the scene and established from the members of the public that there were unknown police spotted along the road seemingly drunk.
A police report seen by The Informer revealed that the officer named Edwin Japheth Owino based in Vihiga prisons was on duty during the just concluded gubernatorial elections in Kakamega county.
Owino is currently in custody to shed more light on the said issue.
