Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Abdulswamad Nassir is leading in the Mombasa governor race.
According to provisional results Nassir beat his main competitor Hassan Omar of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) with Nassir garnering 119,083 votes against Omar’s 98,108.
In Jomvu, which has 75,085 registered voters, Nassir garnered 15,629 against Omar’s 11,038 while in Changamwe, which has 93, 561 total registered voters, Nassir received 17,740, whereas Omar had 15, 898.
Nassir further claimed enough votes in Mvita, which is his backyard whereby he received 24,106 with Omar garnering 19,086.
In Nyali’s final tally, Nassir garnered 22,387 with Omar managing to garner 21,580.
Prior to the provincial results being announced celebrations rocked various areas in Mombasa county.
On the same breath William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) affiliated leaders who lead the campaigns for Omar have since conceded defeat.
Among those who have conceded defeat are former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and former legislator Moses Kuria.
