A Presiding Officer and his deputy have been arrested in Kisauni, Mombasa County for allegedly disrupting the vote counting process.
Nicholas Nyamuya Motatiro and Sawia Mutes Kirunda allegedly refused to count votes at Station 3 in Utange polling station.
According to Nyali Police Commander, Daniel Masamba, the two will be charged with deliberately rejecting or refusing to count ballot papers, which is a violation of the Election Act 2016.
“The suspects are already in police custody awaiting to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges,” Masamba said.
The two were reported by Kisauni Constituency Returning Officer, Ibrahim Wario.
They will be charged under the Elections Act of 2016.
The tallying of ballot papers at Shanzu Teacher Training College, which serves as the Kisauni Constituency tallying centre, is ongoing.
Ballot boxes from various polling stations were received at the centre from 11 am today.
