United Democratic Alliance’s Nixon Korir has conceded an early defeat to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o in the Lang’ata parliamentary seat.
Korir, through his social media platforms today, alluded that the chances of him clinching the seat were slim.
“To the people of Langata, I sincerely thank you for giving me an opportunity to be your Member of Parliament for the last 5 years. It’s been a great opportunity that gave me an avenue to contribute to our nation building and service to the people,” Korir wrote.
According to the outgoing Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP), the results he had received through his tally centre, his competitor Jalang’o had an early lead.
“My competitor Jalang’o has a lead and I want to congratulate him as he prepares to take the mantle and move Langata forward. Siasa si chuki. God bless Langata,” he remarked.
The MP yesterday exuded confidence in retaining his seat in the ongoing General Election.
Speaking after casting his vote at the Lang’ata Road Primary School, Korir expressed confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) delivering a credible election.
“According to the voters’ turnout and the campaign, we are definitely winning. But I can see the town is a little bit slower, maybe because it was a little bit cold in the morning. I can see it is now picking and we hope that it will continue that way. I am yet to look at the actual numbers in terms of the voter turnout,” he stated.
He further commended the IEBC for ensuring the process runs smoothly and remained confident that it will deliver its mandate.
Korir also noted that the decision by the IEBC to suspend elections in some parts of the country was the right step to allow the errors to be corrected and ensure a credible election.
