George Wajackoyah, Roots Party presidential candidate has dismissed the claims that he endorsed Raila Odinga for presidency following the viral video of him allegedly offering his support to the Azimio One Kenya rival.
The politician was captured in the video lavishing Raila Odinga with praises, and igniting speculations that he was supporting the ODM’s leader presidential bid.
“I am here to join the battle of liberators in this country and the person who makes me stand here is none other than Raila Amollo Odinga,” said Wajackoyah in the viral video.
Wajackoyah later denied the accusations, claiming that his statements were distorted by the Deputy President’s allies.
“I have seen the video. You know people are just mad. William Ruto’s people have created an image of me on Facebook saying I am supporting him. Some are saying I have endorsed Raila. Yes, I said those words, that I look up to Raila just like I said about Ruto in Eldoret. I was acknowledging what Raila has done in Nyanza, and what he has done for the people,” he said.
The Roots Party leader still insisted that he will still be on the ballot in the coming General Election.
Roots Party spokesperson, Wilson Muriani alias Jaymo ule Msee stated that the video clip in question was being peddled by their opponents to be used as a propaganda tool against his party leader ahead of the August 9 elections.
“Our attention has been drawn to a viral video clip showing our presidential candidate Professor George Wajackoyah on the campaign trail addressing his supporters at an entertainment joint. Whereas our party leader addressed his supporters and accorded the other three presidential candidates some level of respect, the biased media has doctored the clip to suit and push their candidate, Raila Odinga”, he stated in his statement.
