The commissioner of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Abdi Yakub Guliye has said the safety and security of staff members of the electoral agency is assured for now.
According to Guliye, the Wafula Chebukati-led commission has been in extensive consultations with security apparatus who have assured them of their security.
“So far no one has shown any intentions to eliminate me nor any member of the commission and the security apparatus has assured us of the utmost support,” Guliye said.
He further urged voters to come out to vote with documents they used to register to make it easier for the IEBC officers.
“The register has already been gazetted and if your name is not on the list wait for 2027, also you cannot vote with a passport yet you registered with an I.D,” Guliye said.
Back in the 2017 election official, Chris Msando’s body was found dumped in a thick forest with days to the election.
According to an autopsy, his body was severely tortured and strangled to death.
Msando had deep scratches and cuts on his back and hands, the chief government Johansen Oduor pathologist said back in 2017.
He was in charge of Kenya’s computerized voting system for the much heated presidential elections between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political nemesis turn friend Raila Odinga.
His body was discovered next to the corpse of a woman in a forest on the outskirts of Nairobi with days to the 2017 elections.
The Kenyan electorate has six days to the election with veteran politician Raila and Deputy President William Ruto leading the polls.
IEBC at the same time released toll-free lines that will operate 24/7 during the election process
The free lines 1543 and 1544 can be used by the general public and voters to use reports on matters relating to voter verification.
