The first consignment of miraa will be flown to Mogadishu on Sunday after negotiation between the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), miraa traders, airlines and the Somali government, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Peter Munya has confirmed.
The CS said that miraa traders are expected to get new licences to replace the old ones in order to match the current set regulations in this line of business.
Munya noted that by close of business today, 22 miraa traders who have approved by AFA will receive their export licence. The farmers are anticipating to export their first crop before the end of the week.
The CS also said that just like coffee and pyrethrum farmers, miraa farmers should also get a chance to earn from their produce.
The farmers are also expected to be included in the produce so as to ensure it is sold at a good price unlike in previous years where farmers were forced to sell their produce at low prices.
