Suspended Football Kenya Federation boss Nick Mwendwa’s corrupt charges have been dropped after prosecutors failed to provide any evidence.
Mwendwa had been charged with embezzling Sh38 million received from the government and other sponsors as well as conspiracy to defraud the FKF of about $254,000.
The prosecution today told the Nairobi court they were yet to record witness statements before the case was dismissed.
The presiding Magistrate declined an application for adjournment when the matter came up for hearing on July 4, 2022.
However, Mwendwa can still get arrested and charged afresh once witness statements are available.
Mwendwa was arrested in November after the Kenyan government disbanded the federation and set up a caretaker committee to run football over alleged financial impropriety during his tenure.
He was consequently forced to step down as the president of FKF.
However, the trial was yet to start with the prosecution unable to produce witnesses to testify in the case.
Mwendwa, 43, had denied all the allegations against him.
