Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i this morning held an interaction breakfast with a multi-agency security team undertaking Operation Rejesha Amani in Marsabit for restoring peace and stopping ethnic clashes in the County at Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Marsabit.
The objective of the operation launched on May 2, 2022, is the restoration of peace, mop-up of illegal weapons, and the flushing out of illegal miners in the Kom area abutting Isiolo County.
Matiang’i, Inspector General(IG) Hilary Mutyambai, and other senior security officials are in Marsabit County assessing the security situation in the county in light of the ongoing security operation aimed at restoring peace and security.
“Engaged with women from Marsabit on their continued contribution to the ongoing peace initiatives. Having to bear the brunt of the violent clashes, I assured them of the government’s relentless pressure to collect all illegal firearms in the ongoing Operation Rejesha Amani Marsabit,” Matiang’i said.

The meeting is focusing on addressing insecurity within the county and assessing the ongoing security interventions by the Multi-Agency security team.
The Interfaith Council has presented a petition supporting government efforts to restore peace and security in Marsabit County.
Last week, Matiang’i extended the dusk to dawn security curfew in Marsabit for 30 more days to enable the ongoing operations to meet their targets.
This follows the lapse of the earlier 30-day curfew period that was enforced on May 2.
Officials say the Marsabit operation has progressed according to the plans and police say there have been nil cases of attacks as it was in the past months.
So far more than 120 guns and 1,300 rounds of ammunition among other crude weapons have been recovered from locals.
The recoveries were made in various Sub-Counties in Marsabit during the month-long exercise.
