The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has announced that only accredited journalists will be assigned to cover the State funeral and memorial service of the late former President Mwai Kibaki.
Through a statement, MCK Chief Executive Officer David Omworo said that the journalists would be given complimentary media permits and will not be charged for the credentials.
After a state funeral at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, April 29, Kibaki will be laid to rest at his family home in Othaya, Nyeri county on Saturday, April 30.
“The Media Council of Kenya will issue Special Media Passes to all journalists assigned to cover the State Funeral Service at Nyayo stadium on Friday 29th April 2022 and the Memorial Service at Othaya Stadium on Saturday, 30th April 2022,” read the statement.
MCK further stated that media outlets must send the names of the persons, as well as their national ID numbers, by 4 pm. on Wednesday, April 27.
The third President of the Republic of Kenya died on Friday, April 22.
His body will lie in Parliament Buildings for three days today being the last between 9am and 5pm for the public to view.
Members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries may pay a visit to the former President’s family tomorrow and Wednesday between 9am and 12pm at his Official Office in Nyari, off Redhill Road Nairobi.
Kibaki’s office, Parliament Buildings, the Supreme Court of Kenya, all Ministries Offices, Council of Governors Headquarters, all Regional and County Commissioners Offices around the country, and Kenyan High Commissions, Embassies, and Missions Abroad will all have condolence books available.
The national state funeral will be held in Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, with full military honours and ceremonies. From State House to Nyayo Stadium, the state funeral procession will take place.
