All eyes will be on Mt Kenya region tomorrow as President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to visit Kandara constituency, Murang’a county the day when United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to conduct its party primaries countrywide.
This will be the first visit to the region since he publicly declared his support for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in the forthcoming general elections.
He will be attending the “Holy Oil” event convened by the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) in Gakarara.
His visit coincides with the much-awaited UDA nominations, which shall be conducted in at least thirty-five counties.
Sources indicated that the constituency had been a beehive of activities by the security apparatus to ensure that everything went as planned.
Kandara sub-county police boss Michael Mwaura gave a stern warning to anyone planning to disrupt the event or heckle the President.
“We know you people around here are very active in politics. We want to make sure that you separate your local politics from a State visit,” said a team leader of the agents.
“The President is not coming to politic … Ours is to ensure that you all behave and conform to expected behaviour during a presidential visit.”
“It is all systems go, and we have close-knit ground teams collecting intelligence, correlating it, and using it to develop action plans,” he added.
Murang’a county is divided into a Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja zone; Senator Irungu Kang’ata, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, Maragua MP Mary was Maua, and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro are for the DP, while Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi, Kigumo’s Wangari Mwaniki, Kangema’s Muturi Kitano and Mathioya’s Peter Kimari are behind Odinga’s bid.
Kang’ata says he will be busy monitoring the UDA nomination; he, however, urges the President to keep his word and at least show-up.
