Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria will be required by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to validate his statement before the commission on how the 2017 election was rigged in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to Wafula Chebukati, the Chairman of the electoral body, the 2017 general elections were free, fair and credible. Despite the claims made by Kuria.
“The commission will proceed and take action on Moses Kuria in terms of law, our team will investigate, and if the wording he said is confirmed and found to be offensive, we shall proceed to summon him. We have an investigation team to deal with that as soon as possible,” Chebukati said.
Kuria was speaking during the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Kasarani where Deputy President William Ruto was endorsed as the presidential candidate ahead of the August election.
He said that all the brains that put Kenyatta in that position are in UDA and whatever is in Azimio is just the body.
“Some people are saying that Mt. Kenya votes will be rigged. Governor Anne Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi….we were the ones holding Uhuru’s votes and we’re the one who were rigging his votes. (Kuna wengine wanasema ati kura ya mlima itagawanywa; mheshimiwa Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi…Sisi ndio tulikuwa tukishikilia Uhuru kura, na sisi ndio tulikuwa tunamuibia kura),” Kuria stated.
Election fraud is a serious offence in Kenya; however, a month ago, Muranga’s women representative Sabina Chege made similar remarks in Kisumu.
Vote rigging claims in previous and in the 2022 polls continue to provide fodder in the ongoing political discourse in the country with top leading coalitions in the trading accusations on the subject.
