Listeners of the Deputy President at the Chatham House were treated to a new revelation of the Deputy President’s bitter-sweet relationship with his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The DP said that they did not share the government equally, contrary to talks that have been in the circles of power.
The DP said the President made all appointments and the appointments were his.
“There were no dockets that were given to me. I didn’t appoint any minister anywhere. The President of Kenya appointed everybody,” Ruto said
Ruto contradicts the comments made by the Head of State, who said that it was his deputy who was responsible for running down the agriculture ministry.
Kenyatta had alluded to this claim during the Sagana Three meetings blaming his deputy for the weak tea, coffee and rice sectors.
The DP went ahead to compare how badly the government performed during the second term citing the rivalry between the two quarters.
He said that the handshake came and ruined all government operations and focused on a failed constitution reform process.
“The BBI came and killed everything. It killed the government. It killed the opposition. It killed the Big 4 agenda. It killed everything,” he said.
The DP faulted candidates who did not accept election results on post-election violence.
He assured the diaspora and Kenyans at large that he would accept the outcome of the August 9 general election and asked other candidates to follow suit.
If elected, the DP assured that, his government would focus on eradicating corruption, providing adequate medical services, and ensuring that the independence of the judiciary is fully facilitated. Ruto was speaking at the Chatham House in the UK.
